About THE Turf Plan Team

Bill DiMercurio and Jeff Travers, both natives of St. Louis, joined forces in the spring of 2009 to form the LLC known as, “THE Turf Plan”.

Bill has been a lawn care operator for most of his wage-earning life, starting a company with his brother, David, while in high school.  After attending CBC High School he went on to attain a degree in Business Management from Arizona State University.  Bill tried to pay back his student loans by working for a hedge fund valuation company, but simply missed being in the great outdoors.  His now owns and operates a very successful venture, Two Boys And A Lawn Mower, LLC, taking care of residential and commercial properties.

Jeff Travers, the other partner in THE Turf Plan, has been involved in horticultural pursuits all his life, inheriting his green thumb from his father’s side of the family.  Jeff attended Parkway Central High School, then went on to attain his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Horticulture from the University of Missouri-Columbia (MIZ…ZOU!).  He has worked at Monsanto for nearly 30 years, in various aspects of research and development of new herbicide products and formulations.  A notable achievement in his professional career was the lead research role for the development of the fantastic nutsedge herbicide, halosulfuron, formerly known as Manage(R) but now sold as SedgeHammer(R).

Jeff began dispensing horticultural advice to his colleagues at Monsanto, as far back as 1988.  Recognizing that while his colleagues were experts in their respective fields of agronomy, weed science and pathology, they were dumb as rocks when it came to managing their turf and landscapes.  He started THE PLAN, as it was called back then, distributing a hard copy, two-page outline, and gained a great deal of notoriety within the local community.  With the advent of Al Gore’s Internet, Jeff began to publish regular “turf tips”, sending them out monthly via his old AOL address.  Up until 2009, followers of THE PLAN were sent to a local fertilizer and seed supplier, to purchase required products.  Jeff’s distribution lists swelled to nearly 500 followers, all of whom can vouch for the effectiveness of THE Turf Plan.

In the spring of 2007, Jeff’s personal lawn mower was in the repair shop, and his turf was desperate for a mowing.  He noted that one of his neighbors was having her lawn mowed by a crew in florescent yellow shirts.  Needing a quick cut, Jeff approached the obvious boss, Bill, to discuss an estimate.  Bill was delighted to cut what he called, “the most perfect lawn he’d ever seen”.  Jeff was impressed with Bill’s work, and a friendship begin, leading to the partnership now known as, THE Turf Plan, LLC.

Currently, our warehouse is located on Brannon, just off Kingshighway, in the area known as “The Hill”.  Products can be picked up by appointment only.   THE Turf Plan will have a retail location in the western suburbs in the very near future.
